Kick-off Meeting for "Empowering Tripura's Women" Project Held at NBIRT Campus
Tripura University and NBIRT Launch Collaborative Initiative for Sustainable Lemongrass Harvesting and Low Carbon Oil Extraction to Empower Rural Women
The Kick-off meeting for the project titled “Empowering Tripura’s Women through Sustainable & Efficient Lemongrass Harvesting and Low Carbon Oil Extraction” was held on 16th September 2024 at 12:30 PM at the NBIRT "Arkaneer" Campus. The project, a joint initiative between Tripura University and the NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT), aims to uplift rural women in West Tripura by promoting sustainable lemongrass harvesting and low-carbon oil extraction techniques.
The session began with a warm welcome from Prof. S.P. GonChaudhuri, who chaired the meeting. He expressed his gratitude to the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Principal Investigator (CO-PI) for successfully securing the project from the SEED Division of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Tripura.
Prof. Shaon Ray Choudhuri, from the Department of Microbiology at Tripura University, also attended the meeting and shared her enthusiasm about the project. She expressed her pleasure in meeting Prof. GonChaudhuri and the NBIRT team.
During the meeting, Prof. GonChaudhuri emphasized the project's critical role in empowering women in West Tripura through sustainable agricultural practices, which could have a profound impact on local livelihoods and contribute to environmental sustainability.
Concluding the session, the chairperson urged all team members to remain focused on the project’s objectives and deliver meaningful outcomes that would benefit the local communities involved.
